Goodspeed Day 1975
In olden times, the Department of Linguistics celebrated the anniversary of the exodus from Foster Hall to relatively luxurious quarters in Goodspeed (whence the subsequent move to Classics) with a procession from Foster to Goodspeed by a circuitous route with much merriment and singing of funny songs, followed by a symposium. These photos are from Goodspeed Day (2 May) 1975, and in them can be seen Linguistics Department faculty past, present, and then-future. In the symposium photograph, I am reading a paper co-authored with Claudia Corum (Gaines), demonstrating the relationship between transformational grammar and belly dancing. Also visible in these pictures are people wearing the first CLS T-Shirts (CLS 11). Claudia, Thom Smith-Stark and I had them printed. They were Claudias idea.
