Pritzker SOM Dean's Council
MSTP Representative, 2016-2018: The Pritzker School of Medicine Dean's Council represents the student body in interfacing with the Pritzker administration, namely the Dean of Medical Eduation and the Dean of Students. As one of the two MSTP representatves, I work to make sure that the needs and parcularities of MSTP students are communicated to Dean Humphery and Dean Woodruff. I have appreciated the opportunity to represent my peers in working with the Pritzker Administration to address issues that affect the student body.
Pritzker MSTP Student Council
MSTP Student Council President, 2012-2015: The MSTP Student Council works with the MSTP administration to bring student concerns to their attention, as well as to plan MSTP events, such as our annual Retreat, inter-institutional seminars and recreation with Northwestern and UIC, monthly Grand Rounds seminars, pub nights, and vertical integration mentoring opportunities. I believe having a robust, vertically integrated MSTP community is essential for personal and professional development as a physician-scientist, and have been proud of the work the Student Council has been able to do to achieve this goal.
Pritzker MSTP Admissions Council
Student Representative, 2012-2016: As a Student Representative on the UChicago MSTP Admissions Committee, I worked to match MSTP applicants with students with similar backgrounds and research interests, in addition to attending Monday evening admissions dinners, leading Tuesday afternoon tours, and attending Wednesday lunches for 7 admissions dates throughtout the year. I also represented the opinions of the student body on the MSTP Admissions Committee. Being able to express my enthusiasm for the UChicago MSTP, recruit new students to the program, and get to know incoming first-year class has been one of my most enjoyable and meaningful services to my Pritzer communtiy.
UChicago BSD Dean's Council
MSTP Representative, 2012-2015: The UChicago Biological Sciences Division Dean's Council works with the BSD Dean of Graduate Studies to make decisions that affect the student body and bring student body concerns to the attention of the Dean. The BSD Dean's Council also plans a variety of community events to benefit student life and increase divisonal cohesion. As a MSTP representative, I was proud to be a student marshall during the 2015 BSD Commencement Hooding Ceremony, as well as ensuring that all students were required to provide their input in a referendum on whether to adopt a division-wide universal CTApass, which would have negatively finanacially impacted many students.
UChicago Charter Woodlawn Campus Community Garden
I thoroghly enjoy working with my wife in the UChicago Charter Woodlawn Campus Community Garden, where we work on preparing, weeding, planting, and watering beds, maintaining the garden grounds, and, in 2016, building a new fence around the garden premises.
