Matthew T. Kapstein has
taught at the University of Chicago
from 1986 to 1989, and
again since 1996. In between,
he was a member of the Department of Religion at Columbia
University in the City of New York. Since 2002, he has
also served on the faculty of religious studies at the Ecole
Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris, where he
directs, too, the research team devoted to Tibetan Studies
at the Centre de
recherche sur les civilisations de l'Asie orientale.

Kapstein's fields of study are Indian philosophy and the Buddhist traditions of Tibet. His current list of publications includes references to work in both of these areas. In addition, he is co-editor of the quarterly journal History of Religions, and of the online Oxford Bibliographies of Buddhism.
