06 Nov, 2004 - Final week of ramadan. It has been a blessed one, with the cold weather descending on Chicago and the re-election of Bush... No, really it has been. Today the weather is 15 degrees warmer and IL now has Barack Obama representing us as the only black senator in the U.S. ALSO, my family visited me here for the first time together, I've been seeing kids all day (mostly healthy toddlers) at a pediatric clinic and breaking my fast with a great group of brothers and sisters on campus. Last night I did my first shift in the Pediatric ER. Believe the hype of busy Friday nights- I saw a head laceration, a couple broken arms, a fungal infection on a butt, asthma attack and a gunshot through the butt out the inner thigh. More details on request.. Now for a couple pictures that brought back good memories of the beginning of the summer.
27 Sep, 2004 - My boy, M. Hasan Ali, the VP extraordinaire of MSA at University of Chicago sent me the link to this humorous video on being a young muslim struggling against the man. 7 Sep, 2004 - The town council of Sudavik, Iceland posted lots of our pics on their webpage. Click the "Workcamp Juni 2004" one. 26 Mar, 2004 - Deciding to spruce up this front page alittle more, I'm going to start a "pic of the day" which will lead you to the page that it's on to answer the Q
25 Mar, 2004 - Spring Break 2004 has been a good mix of relaxation, fun and recharging. The first weekend was spent in K.C. for the AMSA National Convention.
My one and only sibling, Sara Turshani, has been showing me a good time in San Jose for most of my break. It was good to see her after almost a year in her new home. Her outdoor campus reminds me of the sunshiney warm USF. 13 Feb, 2004 - The first half of my second winter in Chicago is over! Marked by a big test in the class that consumes my life, called (CPP) Clinical PathoPhysiology, it's all downhill from here. After our next test in 5 weeks I get to visit my sister in Cali for the first time since she got married. This Chicago weather isn't so bad anymore. It dawned on me a couple days ago while talking to my mom. Telling her it was warm on a day that it was 37 degrees, she laughed at me and told me it was 80 back home in St. Pete. Look out for an update on the Useful page with readings since med school started, followed by pics with my med school amigos under Friends 06 May, 2003 - Shan: Happy 24th Birthday! On this glorious day of yours, here's a little artwork
Nate and I made in your bedroom a few months ago.. Oh and he's some some advice that Nate wanted to share with you.. 05 May, 2003 - A year ago today, I walked across the graduation platform in the USF Sun Dome. Congrats to all you Bulls that walked last Saturday! Tonight I got a call from the girls that will be taking over this apartment the day we head out on June 15. It's sad that I haven't updated this page since before I even moved IN this place.
The roomates I have now are truly great guys that I've been blessed to live with. Shan and Nathan- thanx for having faith in me over Dave! These two live their life in many ways that I strive for- very selflessly, always joking and light-hearted yet commited to things they love. 22 August, 2002 - Still over a month before orientation starts at University of Chicago so I'm reading even more books lately.
29 July, 2002 - Got back from Espana just over 10 days ago. My spanish was good enough to make it the whole month and improved quite a bit- though I can't quite say I'm fluent yet. Overall, an awesome time with the kids and volunteers, and I highly recommend looking into Volunteers for Peace for an affordable, rewarding vacation.
10 May, 2002 - Graduated this past Sat. woo-hoo. Driving to Cali w/ my main man Josef. the only sister, Sara, shall be married by the end of the month to leave me and mother alone. sob, sob... No, we're actually VERY happy for her. Love you, Sara!
