Academic Interests:

 

Dr. Zhang was appointed as the Director of Health Econometrics at the University of Chicago in 2003.  Dr. Zhang has also served as associate Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Zhang’s research is in the field of health services research, health economics, and health policy, focusing on the emerging pattern of disease and resource use during the demographic transition of the society.  More specifically, he is interested in assessing resource use, quality of life, risk adjustment, and quality of care for the Medicare population with diabetes mellitus (DM), heart failure (HF), Medicare and Medicaid Dual Eligibilities (DEs), and international health.  The research he has led and contributed to have been published extensively in leading journals including Medical Care, Journal of American Geriatrics Society, Health Services Research, and Demography.  Dr. Zhang also has a broader interest in pharmaceutical cost-containment policy actions and the use of alternative pharmacological therapy for major chronic conditions.
