The Buddha of Piano Goals

After some discussion about piano goals with another piano-lover, and listening to the music of "The Buddha of Piano" (Godowsky), I have made up the following goal for 2005.

Master the Chopin-Godowsky etudes. Just kidding. But here's a link to an award winning recording. Mind you that it's damn near impoossible to attend a concert/recital where these etudes are part of the program.

The realistic goals are:

1. Finish and record 2 Beethoven sonatas. Op 27, No 2, "Moonlight," and Op 31, No 2, "Tempest."

2. Learn Diabelli Variations.

I'll try to have updates every 2 months.

Starting the third day

after the first two days of vacation, gosh it sure feels like a like time already. both days were packed with actions and meeting lots of people. Information overload. Need to tell myself that this is a vacation--so I need to relax and take it easy. but I'm glad that we're not wasting time either.

today would be the last day in taipei, then we will be traveling south to visit other places and other folks.

mmmmm... I smell fresh seafood... yum!!

Narita Airport

13 hrs after leaving O'Hare International, finally arrived in Japan.
Amazingly, I'm not sleepy, but a bit tired. Thought the jet lag would get to me already.

probably should get some food to eat before arriving to the final destination.

I wonder where's Jeff... probably at the cafe, again...

A Very Christmas Gift

I'm not used to receiving holiday gifts from people, but I have a tradition of giving myself something that I want. Like a treat for keeping up my motivation to do well. Last year, I purchased a new camera and I am having a great time with it. This year, I decided to go for a road bike. This is my first road bike. I have always enjoyed biking, and with the Lake Shore Drive path just across from where I live, I would like to take the opportunity to exercise more and have a good time. I did a lot of research and reading about which road bikes suit beginners. And I settled on the Giant OCR1.

I tested the bike yesterday, after the purchase, on the lake path. I had to go home and didn't want to park my bike in the CTA bus rack. So far, the bike handles well. I just need to get used to it more. But I am happy with the gift.

There's no excuse now for not biking when the opportunity rises.
