The Bulls

I was thinking: why the Bulls aren't doing so well this year? or any other year since Jordan left. It is probably because they are not a good team any more, and no matter how many coaches you go through, the team is still not good. But someone has got to take the fall. It took a while before Krause took the blame so the management is eager to look toward the coach first. Heck, they can't blame the players that much right?

I say, firing coaches don't really do anything in the early season. Instead, make some good trades and attract good players to Chicago.

Voltron Reloaded.

prompted by childhood nostalgia, or rather a deprived childhood, I had to purchase 2 voltron action figures. 1 is a brand new die cast Voltron composed of 5 lions. This is actually the 1980's version that they put out. Man, this is a great toy. The other purchase is a plastic version of Voltron Vehicle 15. it's alright, not as cool as the die cast lions, but it serves the purpose. Now, I got two Voltrons decorating my living room.

now I can rest my childhood nightmares...

It's the best of times.

Today marks the second anniversary of dating my girlfriend. Gosh, how good times go by fast. I must say that I'm doing well, except for a little job glitch, I'm a happy person. Two years. Doesn't seem that long considering other people involved in long-term relationship, or life partners. And like any other relationship, there are ups and downs. It's about how you approach the problems and how you discuss them with each other. There will be conflict when you spend a lot of time with an unrelated person.

As for this special event, I made reservation to Mirai Sushi, one of the best sushi restaurants in Chicago. Of course, I'll be the final judge on how good the sushi is.

"Happy Anniversary, Sarah."

Hakuna Matata

I went to see the Chicago's "Disney presents the Lion King Musical" last week. Having seen the movie many times when it first came out, I thought the musical is nicely adapted for stage. It is visually stunning and the set/costumes are brillant. I was most impressed with how they transformed each character, where most of the characters have both the human quality as well as animal quality. One might say that in the movie, the animals are anthropomorpholized. But on stage, the human aspect of the characters is pronounce. Especially when Mufasa talked to Simba about the kings of the past, it was a scene that really represent a father talking to his son, that Mufasa took down his lion costume and transformed into human.

I loved how costumes are designed. It's almost like a puppeteer show at times, incorporating the human element with the animal physique. the set used many bright colors, and some cartoon colors. The special effects were well done.

Acting was varied among actors. I enjoyed the portrayal of Scar, Rafiki, the hyenas, Zazu, and the grown up Simba. But Mufasa was a bit weak, particularly since I think James Earl Jones' voice was best-suited. A lot of humor is retained from the movie and the stage production added a few more, making it perhaps more relateble the audience.

It's not a musical where music/singing never stops. We get occasional dialogues, and a few new pieces of songs. The Lion King achieved its goal of impressing the audience from the very beginning and even though I have seen the animated rendition, I think I enjoyed the stage production more. It is definitely worth seeing if it is playing in your city.
