Aim of Education
Picked up the recent alumni magazine and read last year's Aim of Education speech given to the Class of 2006. I forgot about the speech for my class when I entered. But reading this speech in the alumni magazine made me think about my experience at the U of C. I highly recommend people reading it. To make the speech's point short: it basically says that what you get out of U of C is what you put in, in terms of looking for education and adding meaning so that the experience is enhanced. It also summarizes why people tend to attend U of C rather than other schools: it is because of who we are and how we are constantly craving for knowledge/understanding and learning for life. In fact, I enjoyed how the speaker argued that there is no aim of education, "the aim is the education." But only for those who seek it.
