bitter tea for breakfast

december 3rd, 2003

wow, i'm really good at updating this. just barely within a year. in any case, i have moved into a new phase with the bitter tea for breakfast project. in addition to a new ep scheduled to come out sometime in the winter or early spring 2004, i've begun performing sporadically with a string trio. it's a different experience, but i think it's a positive change. we had our first show last month, but as soon as i get a little bit better demo recorded, i'll start working on getting shows around chicago. i'll post demos here when they become available.

i've decided to post some of the lyrics to these songs. click on the link next to the song title for lyrics. enjoy.

it's finally, finally done. the infamous solo project is now available. i'm calling the project "bitter tea for breakfast", and the album is entitled "blueprints for a medical building". email me or submit the form if you would like a copy. i'm not sure how often i'll get to perform this sort of thing (being so busy with millimeters mercury), but there was a rumor of enlisting help from friends to perform it at the Cove or on WHPK's Pure Hype or something sometime soon. we'll see.

this project has taken about a year and a half to record and produce. these songs are my favorites of the ones i've written in the last five years (the earliest song is from 1998), though most of the songs were written from late fall 2000 to early 2002, and all were revised over the course of the recording. i recorded all the the instruments and vocals using my computer, motu 828, mackie mixer, various microphones, several different guitars (thank you Robert Voyer, Will Long, and Conor Loughridge), various drumkits (thank you Chris Vlasses), and a few random things i found around the apartment. these songs are now as finished as i'm guessing they ever will be. it has been a somewhat torturous labor of love, and i'm mostly glad just to be done with it. i imagine the neighbors are too. it's by no means perfect, but at least it's honest. i hope you enjoy it.

i am responsible for all of the vocals, instruments, engineering, producing, mixing, and mastering. i have no one to blame but myself.
