Ben Harper

I had a rough day on Tuesday.

Do you know what I do when I have a rough day on a Tuesday?  I stop in at the Tower records at Adams & Wabash on way home.  New Music Tuesdays.  Consumer Therapy.

I bought the new Ben Harper album "Both Sides of the Gun" (on sale 9.99) and "Feast of Wire" by Calexico (also on sale, part of my pre-lollapalooza music listening campaign).

On the first listen, the new Ben Harper album is a move back towards the early ben harper albums that I liked so very much.  I didn't like more than 2 songs on each of his last two albums which seemed to try to be more radio-friendly (Note: the first 3 albums are almost all gold. One day I'll make a mix of contemporary socially-righteous music and Ben Harper's "Oppression" will be the lead track).

McFadden got me started on Ben Harper (among others) in SA during Peace Corps.  Ben Harper led me to the Blind Boys of Alabama and Blackalicious (who in turn have led me to the entire Quannum collective and Saul Williams).

(Question for the Comments: Tracks for a mix-tape of socially conscious themed music from the last 10 years)
