Matthew Shipp at the HotHouse

I stopped in at the HotHouse on Friday night to see Matthew Shipp. He played one continuous 70 minute set on the piano. Fantastic. It was jazz with all the grandeur of an orchestra playing a film score. Intense.

I should thank the people at flavorpill for the free tickets (I won an email response question in their last weekly newsletter)!

My Matthew Shipp "credentials" -- I own his albums "Harmony & Abyss" and "Nu Bopp" as well as quite a few albums that he appears on (including collaborations with DJ Spooky, The AntiPop Consortium and a number of "Thirsty Ear" artists). His work as the artistic director of the Blue Series from Thirsty Ear Records has been stellar and I generally give a listen to anything that I find with that moniker.
