Sobering Times in the New Year...

Random Quote: Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

I didn't entirely mean to start off the new year with such serious self-maintenance efforts, but today I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor and managed to get a haircut (with a day of work at the University sandwiched in-between).

I'll save the more traumatic of the experiences (the haircut) for the end.

Some background first: I have avoided doctors successfully from the start of 2001 to the end of 2005. It was a random illness in the fall of 2005 that put me on this track to wellness. I have dreaded talking to doctors about my personal health for years now. In December, I went in for a preliminary check-up and had blood drawn for a variety of tests. Today, I got the results. I was expecting the "my god, how is it that you persist to live like this!" talk but instead got a light version of the "you should start thinking about your diet more" talk. Not bad. Not bad at all. I have to go back in 6 months after making some changes to my diet so that they can check some other things.

In the short term this means that I'm going to eat at Harold's one day this week (let's say Thursday if you're in HP), only after that will I begin to be more responsible about my diet.

I survived the doctors appointment and the day at work unscathed.

Then the haircut....
