Anya Savikhin

Affiliated Labs and Centers.

My academic appointment is with the Becker Friedman Institute for Research in Economics at the University of Chicago. This institute was recently created when we (The Becker Center on Chicago Price Theory) merged with the Milton Friedman Institute, and is supported by the Economics Department, the Chicago Booth School of Business, and the Law School.

I am also a visiting scholar at Purdue University. My primary affiliation at Purdue is with the Vernon Smith Experimental Economics Laboratory (VSEEL). I am also affiliated with the Purdue University Rendering and Perceptualization Lab (PURPL) and with the Network for Computational Nanotechnology nanoHUB project.

Vernon Smith Experimental Economics Lab, Purdue University (VSEEL) - VSEEL is a state-of-the-art facility for laboratory data collection for economics, management, and other social sciences. The lab director is Tim Cason.

Purdue University Rendering and Perceptualization Lab (PURPL) The focus of PURPL is the effective communication of information through graphics rendering, modeling, abstraction, animation, and perceptualization. Purdue University Regional Visualization and Analytics Center (PURVAC) The focus of PURVAC is developing visual analytic environments for the communication of information and insight from massive, disparate, incomplete, and time-evolving homeland security data sets. The lab director is David S. Ebert.

nanoHUB The nanoHUB is a rich, web-based resource for research, education and collaboration in nanotechnology. The nanoHUB was created by the NSF-funded Network for Computational Nanotechnology. [my profile and contributions]

I am working on questions of how visual analytics can increase financial security and literacy together with the Financial Literacy Center at RAND/Dartmouth/Wharton, and the Center for Financial Security at the University of Wisconsin-Madison:

The mission of the Financial Literacy Center is to develop and test innovative programs to improve financial literacy and promote informed financial decisionmaking.

The Center for Financial Security is a cross-campus, interdisciplinary center focusing on applied research that promotes individual and family financial security.

Useful Econ Links.

Veconlab - Classroom experiment software for about 40 web-based experiments run on any PCs that are connected to the internet. The registration and the use of experiments are free. Note: If you are in our Experimental Economics class - this is Holt's project that Professor List refers to in class - if you would like help in using it for your experiments, please e-mail me to set up a time to meet.

Zurich Toolbox for Readymade Economic Experiments (ZTree) - z-Tree is a software for experimental economics. This software package allows to develop and to carry out economic experiments.

Other.

I've written a program to do risk elicitation as in Holt and Laury (2002). The program works in ZTree 2.0 or ZTree 3.3.6 and is a combination of both hand-run and computer run questionnaire - best of both worlds. You can download the Zip file and use for your experiments.
