My main interest is in jazz. I play the saxophone and clarinet,
but in past years I have not kept up too much with them, as my main
instrument has become voice. Singing is so much easier than
playing the saxophone. No need to carry a heavy case around, no
need to buy new reeds or clean out spittle. I can even practice
on my way to work, and often do.
I currently sing in The University
Chorus at UChicago. Next concert is Friday, June 3,
2005.
I used to sing in the Haverford-Bryn
Mawr Chamber Singers. 2 CDs with my voice (and face) on them
are available for purchase.

As far as professional music is concerned, most of my favorite people
are either old or dead, and hence have no webpages. A random
assortment:
Mr. Alto, Mr. Tenor, Mr. Flute, Mr. Vocals... Mr. James Moody! I'm going to
see him at the Jazz Showcase
in Autumn and I'm psyched.
I'm really into Dave
Frishberg. Unfortunately no webpage, but he has to go in here
anyway.
Back in high school, I played in a jazz band with Peter Cincotti.
Now he's all famous and everything, even showing up in a cameo in
Spider-man 2. He's also quite good.
There's a lot of good music on WBEZ.
My favorite shows are Piano
Jazz and Jazz
with Dick Buckley.
My obsession with sports goes back to about the time I learned to walk,
or maybe sooner. I have played nearly everything either
recreationally or competitively. At one time I was talented
enough in tennis to have a ranking. (Only on the local city level, but
New York is a big city!) After a growth spurt I became terrible
and started running cross country. I ran seriously in high
school, and medaled a fair number of times. My best 5K time
was 17:45, but I think the clock on that race got screwed up, and it
was a flat course anyway, so I won't seriously claim to have done
better than 18:01, on the
course in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. I also briefly
played lacrosse at the junior varsity level.
In college, I found a passion for cricket. I was on the Haverford College
Varsity Cricket team, and was captain in 2003-2004. We won
the Philadelphia
International Cricket Festival, going undefeated. We also
toured Barbados in May 2003.
Now I'm just playing softball and basketball whenever I get the chance.

As far as professional sports are concerned, my deepest loyalty is to
the New York Mets. I used to
be a Knicks fan, but haven't
followed in the past couple of years, since I've been away from NYC and
they've been bad. I am also a fan of West Indies Cricket, but have
been depressed by them enough that I will also cheer for India
and New
Zealand when necessary.
Though I will never give up my Metsies, I have to say I am slowly
falling for the White Sox.
They get ignored like the Mets, they have a loyal local working class
fan base, and they're ridiculously awesome this year.
This
was one of the greatest games I have heard or watched in the past few
years. I went berserk at the end. I also purchased a video
file which I have on my computer and I watch when I'm down. This
one was not nearly as exciting, but was very satisfying.
Travel
I love this planet, and enjoy checking it out. I have not gone
nearly as many places as I would like, but I'll include some stories
and pictures here of places I have been. Barbados (and
St. Lucia) Australia
I'm a big fan of mountains. These ones have a beer named after
them.

If you have a webpage, let me know, I'll link it up here (if you're a
friend of mine, obviously).
