About CPT

CPT is the Chicago Area Chapter of the international Conference for the Study of Political Thought (CSPT). We are group of scholars in the Chicago area and slightly beyond who work in political theory and political philosophy. CPT was founded to encourage intellectual interaction among political theory faculty and students at different area universities, and to distribute information about events at our various campuses. We have held two annual one-day conferences, in the Fall of 2001 and the Fall of 2002. Our other services and activities include an email list for posting announcements about lectures, workshops, conferences, courses, and other happenings; a faculty reading group in which we present and discuss our work in progress; and a Graduate Student Caucus (which has its own extensive website).

Here you can download the papers for upcoming meetings of the CPT faculty reading group. These files are in PDF format. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these files. Try downloading a file first; it should open automatically. If you discover that you do not have Acrobat Reader, you can get it for free. If you have trouble with a file, you can email the author to ask for a hard copy. Access to some of these files may be restricted; you will receive access instructions, including passwords, by email if you are a list subscriber. For more information about the reading group, contact Stephen Engelmann. [the reading group is not meeting during the Summer of 2003]

CPT email list

CPT maintains an email list where subscribers can post information about events at area campuses of potential interest to political theorists. If you are interested in subscribing, contact Patchen Markell. If you are already a subscriber, you can go from here to the list information page for more information on how to use the list, to view the list archives, to unsubscribe, or to change your list preferences.

Conferences

In 2001 and 2002, CPT held two one-day conferences for local and visiting scholars, a tradition we hope will continue in 2003 under the auspices of the Graduate Student Caucus. We are currently planning a major international CSPT conference on colonialism and political theory for the Fall of 2004; watch this space for details or contact Iris Young or Jacob Levy for more information.
