Born late in 1977, my baptism was held up due to a midwestern blizzard. I was baptized by a byzantine rite priest, raised in a Catholic family, and attended a Catholic school for eight years. Unlike many of my peers, I didn't rebel against my parents and my faith, but by the time I was done with eighth grade, I was ready to get out of Catholic school. I followed my families traditition by attending Community High School, which I graduated from in 1995.
Finished in four years, despite all my jigging on the seal. Now I've got a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics (with Specialization in Computer Science).
Currently working at The Deparment of Computer Science, I hope to eventually get out of academia altogether to go back to school. Then I hope to get certified to be a teacher so I can go back to school again.
My father's work with technology has always kept me involved with computers, so when I was about to go off to school, he taught me enough Unix basics to get me comfortable so that I could look around on my own. We've never been big on buying computer books; we tend to buy the computer and try it out. Since arriving at school, I've had various levels of excitement about the World Wide Web. After paying my summer modem phone bill, I've learned to take advantage of the computer labs, and after my first year grades, I've learned to avoid three hour Netscape stints. I do enjoy the amount of information available out there, so when I look up an artist and can't find anything worthwhile, I find it in real live books and put up whatever I can. So far I've put up some info on Roland Kirk, and Slim Gaillard, and some lyrics from Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong. Check out my music site, The Shack, for this and more. I've also put up other information that isn't readily available or isn't well known. Read about the Hollow Earth theory, or about Maxwell Street Market, where many of the original Blues artists first played when they came through Chicago.
Hope you enjoy the site, send me a note if you want more information about anything you find, or if you want to initiate conversation about anything at all. You are all invited to come over for tea and Tang and good music. Hope your day is fine!
