Matthew Kapstein has taught
at the University of Chicago
from 1986 to 1989, and
again since 1996. In between, he was a member of  the Department of Religion at Columbia University in the City of New York. Since 2002, he has also served on the faculty of religious studies at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes at the Sorbonne in Paris. His recent and current course offerings at the Divinity School  are posted here.

                                             
Kapstein's fields of study are Indian philosophy and the Buddhist traditions of Tibet. His current list of publications includes references to work in both of these areas. As an executive member of the board of the Tibetan Himalayan Digital Library at the University of Virginia, he has developed resources for the study of the Tibetan language and history.
