My name is Patrick Midtlyng and I am a student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago specializing in phonetics, phonology and morphology but also a strong interest in general linguistics.
I grew up in Johnston, IA--a northwest suburb of Des Moines, IA. I attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA and in 2003 earned my B.A. with Honors in Political Science with a minor in Linguistics.
I am the oldest son of two South Chicago natives. My "return" to Chicago then was a thrill for the whole family. Both of my parents being avid White Sox fans I grew up a Sox fan and so my moving to the South Side of Chicago, a mere ten minutes from Comiskey, has been awesome.
I live in Hyde Park with my wife, Erin and our two cats, Stewie and Bender, and our dog Dexter.
