Real Running Makes Other People Nervous

Just found Pearl Izumi's very fun ad for We are not Joggers. Some great moments in it include, 'we do not design uppers to withstand the rigors of room temperature' and 'jogging is a synonym for half-assed.' The Cranky Fitness folks gripe about the elitism of the ad, but it is just fun---and it is just a more extreme version of John Bingham's I am not a Jogger in Runners World a few months back. At the end of the day, I love those moments where I am pushing it as I run down the Midway or 53rd Street and really do make people a bit edgy as I go. Now, I am probably not the purist that the Pearl ad idealizes, I do like music, after all----but not for races and given the whining about the restriction against music players in Majors Marathons, we all know that these joggers exist. Bingham's is right---runners are not out to make a fashion statement; and even Pearl's key point is there: runners make other people nervous---RUNNERS, no matter where they finish in a race, have the same look on their faces as the first five in the race.

Anyway, just a shot from the couch tonight.
