Claiming to be a three-season cyclist in Chicago requires flexibility and a fairly hard-core attitude. I have said that I draw the line at 32°F, so this morning with temperatures around 30 and wind-chills below, I bailed and decided I would go to the gym. A crazy day ensued with the result that I finally had time to hit the gym around 3---and decided that a ride was now a possibility. Interestingly, my Adidas jacket is really effective at keeping me almost too warm. The Craft gl0ves stepped up and only my thumb was feeling numb by the end of the ride and my toes were fine. But the face was cold, the nose ran, and the wind was firm enough that I had to focus on cadence so that I felt like I was getting somewhere. The ~17M round-trip was plenty even though I had planned to press through and pick up the 5 miles on the south end of the path.
It was good to get out. There will be at least three months to spin indoors if I am hard-core enough to cycle outside through the Fall.
