Had a little of that 'I don't want to get out of bed' thing this morning and almost talked myself into taking a day off. Once again the function of mid-November, 50°F, not raining too hard won the day resulted in the necessity of getting out on the bike. I am glad I did not stay home---the ride North was really quite pleasant: tailwind giving me a little push and making it feel very easy, some splatters just past North Ave, but nothing serious, and the promise of a shorter ride overall (since Monday has been at 32M for the past few weeks). The return was hard, with a headwind that nearly knocked me over just North of Oak Street Beach, but I plowed through and I was in such a good mood that even the slow return pace did not bring me down.
Part of not wanting to go out this morning came from a certain dread of a strong headwind going North. It's funny how much the 'slog factor' can influence one's willingness to head out and ride. Just 12.5 Miles of easy spinning made the slog back entirely tolerable.
Reading a training plan last night while watching Wooster and Jeeves, I noted that it really only calls for three days of running (one day of which was typically 2 miles) to get to a 3:30 Marathon. The other days were listed as 'cross train'. I may be old, slow, and not in fantastic shape, but I will match my 1.5 hour cross-training sessions with the best of them.
