Except for three little spurts, it was an extremely easy pace just to make sure that my legs were ready to go for tomorrow. Although it was raining this morning, the early AM light on the yellow leaves made it an idyllic run. Took it up to 6:34 pace during the speedups. I need to watch it in the first couple miles tomorrow---my tendency is to go out fast and then get winded. If I run a progressive pace starting at 7:30, it is entirely possible that I could manage the last mile at 6:30 or better. I would love to see 35:00 time for the 8k, but I think that is ambitious given where I am. Anything under 40:00 will be satisfactory, a 37:30 is what I think I can do reasonably. A little Garmin programming may be in order.

I have been working through the 600+ applications to the Arete Initiative's Wisdom Project these past several days and it has been hard to separate my life from these three-page letters with myriad approaches to the study of Wisdom. Running seems to sideline some of the busy-ness of the brain, but not in a permanent way---only fast running seems to push the body fully to the forefront of the operation. I think this is why I am so eager to race tomorrow. I spend so much time trying to make sure that my running/biking is sustainable and injury-free that I rarely get to push it in an all-out sort of way. I feel like I can really put myself on the line tomorrow without shame---and if I decide that I need a week off afterwards, so be it (although highly doubtful, it is only 8k after all).
