Matthew Christian: Children, Science, Speed

A training log with reflections on running and bicycling. From time to time science (work) and children (family) inevitably join to make this a conversational space and open journal.

Extra Day Off

I got the double-whammy of a cold and sensitive knees starting Tuesday. The cold probably came from being under-dressed on that Monday ride, although I was already feeling a bit poor on Sunday. Both the cold and the knees seem to be telling me that I pushed it too hard last week---so backing off of the shorter ride today seemed prudent. The logical approach to the schedule would be to simply skip the ride today and go back to running tomorrow. I hate missing rides, though, and that makes me think that putting in 20-30 tomorrow would be ideal---I could even hit the UCVC club ride or Tati's ride. The advantage here is that I get to ride and I give my knees a couple extra days without a pounding. Does this mean, then, that I run next on Sunday? And if so, do I really run intervals?

The crazy in me thinks: ride 20, run 4 and call it duathalon day. Have to think on it.
