We all gripe about Mondays anyway, but today was something very special. It rained all night and although it had stopped by 5am, it was still really wet. When I got in on Saturday, my rear tire was getting soft, so I carefully inspected, cleaned, and rotated the two tires (probably about 900-1000 on them) hoping to get another 900-1000 out of them. The path seems to really pound on the tires, and the rear one has some surface splits, but nothing that goes through. Long and short: flatted the front at 13.57 miles (41.82132 by -87.59763 for the GPS geeks). Inspected (in the dark, so not in any stellar way) and replaced the tube. Flatted the same tire, I think in the same way at 20.65 (41.79218 by -87.57988). Noisy flats both which makes me think that the tire casing must be split along a sidewall. No time to look since my 20 miler took 1:40 to complete---check on it tonight, I guess. Limped home mostly on the rim. Should probably order another set of Vittorias, but they are expensive if I am getting less than 1k out of them...
And yes, a bit stupid to have rotated the worn rear up front. Lucky I did not injure myself by having a worn front. This does make it easy to put a new one up there right away.
