Matthew Christian: Children, Science, Speed

A training log with reflections on running and bicycling. From time to time science (work) and children (family) inevitably join to make this a conversational space and open journal.

Rained out

After weeks of drought in Talahasee, they finally got a serious, all-day type of rain. Unfortunately, this put a crimp in my riding. It's not that I am too concerned about riding in the rain, but I sure dislike changing tires in the rain and with my luck (see Wet, Flat Monday), I am bound to blow at least one in the muck.

My consolation is that I would have lost the day in Chicago, AND I got a double-workout in yesterday.

Thinking about the no-drops ride yesterday, it did accomplish one thing: several training guides suggest that the 'easy' day be in zone 1-2, without really pushing 2. Since I only rarely broke 100bpm, I now know how to do a truly easy day---although I cannot imagine taking that pace without having someone to talk to. Be nice to get myself to the point where I could average 15-16mph at that hr.

Revised plan:

Tues: Run Birmingham 5.5 (done)
Wed: Ride St. Marks 24.5 (done)
Thurs: (1) Easy Ride 24.5 (d0ne) (2) Run toward St. Marks 5.5 (d0ne)
Fri off (possible afternoon run/ride)
Sat Ride full St. Marks trail (40-50)

Sun Run Intervals/Fartlek (6)
Mon off (travel day)
Tues Run Nashville (5-6)
Wed Ride St. Louis (river 30?)
