Somehow I have to believe that it is just a good thing to be on the saddle for 1.5 hours---even if my HR averages 64BPM for the whole ride. The time toughens one up, even if you don't get much in the way of miles....right? If I thought that the ride was slow a couple days ago, today was truly amazing. Rode with my eight-year-old nephew (on his dirt bike) who kept insisting that he could do the 30-mile loop to Tallahassee and back. He was actually able to keep up all the way up to about 16 mph (at his urging), although he was really huffing at that point. We rode a stretch at about 10-11mph which he could almost sustain, but by the time we turned around at St. Marks and realized that the grocery was closed, he was complaining of no energy and a sore back. Hopefully I can squeeze in a run this afternoon.

The trail is an old light-gauge rail right of way between Tallahassee and St. Marks. St. Marks is not much to speak of at this point and since everyone drives now, it is no surprise that the rail has gone away. As a bike trail, however, it is nearly perfect---and the Riverside Cafe has great seafood and beer (and Gatorade) which would make it a perfect turnaround for a 38-miler from FSU. Perfect in OCTOBER . . . I cannot imagine trying to ride it in July.
