Run Started at: 05:19:17am
End of my running/biking week (Wednesdays off) and I was feeling it this morning. I was initially planning to run track intervals, but the track at UC was locked up (should not have surprised me) and the batteries for my music failed so I decided to fartlek a bit. Interesting article in the most recent RW about how as we get older we get better at planning for the future or analyzing the past, but spend too little time on 'play' (enjoying the now). With a sluggish start, I had a nice time just doing the 'I am going to run fast from here to that traffic light' approach (see the article about fartlek in RW). I had not noticed it before, but each of the segments on the Midway is .25 miles which makes for easy quarter-mile markers (the sidewalk is rough, so it is more cross country than track).
Feel like I should be able to get more outdoor speed. On the treadmill I can maintain 7.5 for long stretches---since I moved outdoors, this seems unattainable---and it is not just due to the averaging of warmup and cooldown times.
Mile Speed(Mph):
1 5.4
2 6.9
3 6.4
4 6.4
5 5.2
So I was just goofing around, but this is none too impressive compared to treadmill speeds.
Sunday was similar:
Mile Speed(Mph):
1 6.7
2 7.2
3 6.9
4 6.7
5 6.5
6 5.5
Last Tuesday I hit it pretty strong:
Mile Speed(Mph):
1 6.0
2 7.3
3 7.0
4 7.1
5 6.6
6 4.6
I think I need to try to push on those last-week-Tuesday speeds a bit more.
