After stopping in Saint Louis overnight, we went South to Birmingham, stopping at Big Bob Gibson's Barbeque in Decatur, GA (hometown of Michael Stipe, if I am not mistaken). With the little ones, we had to stop frequently and finally arrived at the hotel around 8pm.

Since I did not have time to scope out good locations, I started out with an exploratory lap around the shopping plaza/hotel area that we were in, went out to Lakeshore Drive (although I am unclear where the lake is in Birmingham). Lakeshore was busy so I dove into some industrial complexes and found 5 miles at a decent pace.

Stepped in crap along the way which will give me something of a lasting impression of Birmingham and discovered later that there is a lovely little trail just up the road from my hotel. I will have to remember that next time. Here is the better route there is also potential that the next time we head this way, it will be even easier.

Birmingham has hills, which was a nice change from Chicago (and Florida where we are heading).
