Baseline
Instead of a proper day off, I decided to get some baseline information about my swimming. I am a terrible swimmer---not that I do not have the strength and endurance for it, but I tend to suck in the entire pool. Being the good academic that I am, I bought Fitness Swimming hoping that reading about how to swim would make me a world-class triathlete (tee hee). In fact, I am just looking toward winter and thinking that three days each week on the indoor bike trainer is going to get old fast and that I will need something to supplement the treadmill and trainer.
15 minutes in the pool was encouraging ONLY insofar as I think that I will be able to see my improvement pretty quickly---because my showing was so poor.
T-15 Record
Number of Meters: 400
IHR after the swim: 132
Elapsed Time: 16:03
T-15 cruise pace per 100 meters: 4:00
My heart rate was not especially high, but I felt like I drank most of the pool when I was trying to do anything other than a desperation breast stroke (e.g., keeping my mouth above the water at all times). Slow and annoying---especially with my 8-months pregnant neighbor in the next lane flying down the lane, flipping over, and the works. Hope she did not recognize me.
