8/23/2008:
I have finally gotten my new Picassa picture galleries up to date with captions and tags and updated my Photos page. Check my pictures out here if you haven't already.

8/12/2008:
I have moved pictures from Flickr to Picassa because Flickr has imposed restrictions on the number of photos I can post for free. I have updated the Photos page to reflect this. There are a few new features I like, but it will take a bit of getting used to. Many captions for the photos are missing right now, but I'm working to update that as well.

In unrelated news, I've discovered that my site looks terrible in Firefox. I'm looking into it, but for the time being I'm recommending Internet Explorer if that's not what you're using already.

In case you were wondering what physicists do at parties, check out this Onion Radio News report.

6/8/2008:
My work on surface plasmon propagation has come to a close. All-in-all I think it turned out to be a great project. I learned quite a bit about this topic which I had previously never heard of and I tightened up my electricity and magnetism skills (an area I had never claimed any confidence in). I've posted the final report and poster on the plasmon research page. I am quite grateful to Prof. Guyot-Sionnest for his help through all this. Now it's time to shift gears as I prepare for my summer work with Prof. Mazenko.

5/1/2008:
I have begun to work on some numerical calculations related to the liquid-glass phase transition under advisor Gene Mazenko. This project will run through the coming summer, but if I enjoy the work and am able to handle the calculations, it may be possible to stay on and expand this into something larger. The work seems interesting, relevant and very challenging. It is the first time I will be involved in truly theoretical research. As I become familiar with the material I will post information on its own page under Research.

4/5/2008:
Two of my photos are now featured on the Schmap!! Guides online - one in the Boston Guide and one in the Chicago guide. Follow the links in Photos to see.

3/30/2008:
I have just passed the University of Chicago Department of Physics Candidacy Exam and have advanced to the level of PhD candidate! I can now begin dissertation work when I find a group and I can receive my Master's Degree in the fall. I will most likely just spend the next year on classes, but it is such a relief to be done with this bear of a test.

2/14/2008:
Jess and I are now engaged! I proposed on February 9 after surprising her with a trip home from Chicago. We are waiting for her to finish up her bachelor's degree before we set a wedding date, but we're both obviously excited and she has already signed up for a slew of bridal magazines. If you haven't met Jess, you can at least see some pictures in Photos or read a little bit in Personal Information.

1/13/2008:
I very recently found out that the Ohio University Society of Physics Students was named an "Outstanding Chapter" for 2007. I'm proud of the work we did and of all the contributions from members over the last few years to put us in this position. SPS National cited our participation in the SOCK program, our receipt of the Marsh White award, and weekly meetings as reasons for their choice. "OU has an excellent outreach program and an impressive increase in chapter activity over the past few years," the release said. More information on the outreach program and award can be found in Outreach.
