I have also been interested in the role of intellectuals in society, models of purposive and non-purposive action, the sociology of knowledge, and higher education. Occasionally, my thoughts and research on these questions make it to print. In the summer of 2011, I began a long-gestating study of how intellectuals of the African diaspora make decisions about their intellectual and professional trajectories.
