WORK

Under construction (still!).The good news is that this paper was read at a conference this fall: the Society for Ethnomusicology, November 3-7, 2004, in Tuscon, AZ (USA). Yay! I prepared a heavily edited (mostly reduced) version of the written paper for the conference, and both versions are available for consultants. I've just moved these pages to my U of Chicago server, so I won't post versions of unpublished material until I've worked out the password protection stuff. Nontheless, I'd appreciate some feedback, so don't hesitate to ask for a copy by email in the meantim.  This may also be a good time for you (if you're a consultant) to re-read the confidentiality and publication sections of my policy document (below).

Drafts from this Project

Dancing with the wrong crowd (PDF file) [NOTE: I'm taking this file offline until I work out password-protection]
This is the version of the paper that I submitted for a course at U of Toronto.  The paper is pretty long and I will probably cut out a fair bit of the historical background for the conference version.  Nonetheless, the 'Ethnography' section is what consultants need to check; a lot of that will be retained and expanded.
