I am a graduate student in developmental psychology at the University of Chicago and am currently in my second year of doctoral study. I received my B.S. in psychology from the University of Iowa in December of 2005. I am also a member of the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center (SILC). My research interests fall under many aspects of development with my main focus being on spatial cognitive development, in particular how children learn to navigate and reason about the spatial world around them. My current research looks at what cues in the environment can be of use to toddlers in order to reorient themselves in space. Within this same research project, I am also attempting to look at what young children know about color, how they perceive it, and how and if color perception changes with acquisition of color terms as well as toddlers’ understanding of number. Lastly, I am very interested in children’s emotional development. I am curious about what very young kids really know about emotion, the emotions of others, how emotions affect our thinking, and when and how this acquisition of knowledge takes place.
