INTEREST Education, Race and Ethnicity, Urban Sociology, Children and
Youth, Transitions to College, Gender and Careers, Longitudinal and Multiple
Methods PERSONAL STATEMENT My
research investigates how social processes and policies affect the
educational pathways of those underrepresented in higher education and
scientific careers. In particular, I examine the social context of schools in
relation to college and career outcomes, with a particular focus on the
mechanisms underlying racial-ethnic and gender disparities in postsecondary
educational attainment and entry to careers in select STEM fields. My
dissertation was a mixed-methods study of the postsecondary pathways of high-aspiring
Latino and ethnic minority youth in Chicago, for which I was
awarded a Spencer Foundation Dissertation Fellowship. SELECTED GRANTS AND HONORS 2010 American Educational Research Association,
