Wine + Index = Winedex

I wouldn’t so much call the Wine Index (hereafter Winedex) a project, as it’s more of an exercise, or if you will, practice. The idea occurred to me while last attempting, rather unsuccessfully, to remove the label from a rather enjoyable bottle of wine, after a lengthy soaking in hot water. All that effort, and in the best of circumstances all that one gained was a small, delicate and easy to loose slip of paper. There must be a more effective way of doing this, I thought. And then it occurred to me, why not simply take digital images of the bottles and place them in a convenient location? And there you have the beginning of my wine (and now spirit) database, with comments accompanying a digital image of the wine label. Just click on the image of the lable to view a higher resolution image.

Winedex Submissions

To submit a unranked or undiscovered wine or spirit to the Winedex, just send me an email with the name of the wine, a picture of the label and whatever information your interested in gleaning from the bottle.

Area: Available in Hyde Park, Binny's
Cost: $7-8
Notes: An fantastic unfiltered blend of 44% old-vines Grenache (44%) and 56% Syrah, whose initials explain the mysterious "G.S." on the label. Perhaps one of the best wines I've had for the price, despite not being much of a Syrah/Shiraz fan.

Name: Guigal Red Cotes Du Rhone
Year: 2003
Region: Rhone Valley, Ampuis.

Notes: Another blended wine from the Rhone valley, the fantastic Guigal Red Cotes Du Rhone includes approximately 50% Syrah, 30-40% Grenache, and the rest Mourvedre. A rather dry red which is most excellent when paired with Swiss Griiar.

Name: La Muse Verte
Distributor: Artez Sarl

Cost: $30-40
Notes: La Muse Verte is an excellent French Absinthe (and thus devoid of Wormwood) that is best served in the traditional method of absinth preparation- pouring iced water onto a sugar cube balanced on an absinthe spoon. On the high end in terms of alchohol content (68% by volume) - even for absinthe.

Absinthe, having been declared illegal in france by name, is sold under the psedonom of 'Spiriteux Aux Plantes D'Absinthe'.
