EMPhasis: The Musical Landscape Through Which We Walk, Somewhat Dazed
Anyone else going to the EMP Pop Conference, on April 27-30? I won't be presenting this year, though I did consider turning something in, something about The Frogs and concealed homosexuality and the mirrored gaze and Foucault and Protestant mores and Sen. Robt. LaFollette and some child development psych stuff, and of course the MSG of modern discourse, Irony. Then I decided I just wanted to relax and hear some great panels. Track me down and say howdy!

Woot Woot!
The blog for the 33 1/3 book series on Continuum offered up an informal contest a few months back: predict what the chart ratings will be in late March for the books about Neutral Milk Hotel and the Band. (By "chart" they're referring to Continuum's own internal ranking of book sales in the series, not a public "best-seller" list or anything.) Well, I won! And holy crap - check out exactly what I won...

Thought I'd repost this announcement: Franklin Bruno is the main ingredient in Nothing Painted Blue, the pianoman of the Mountain Goats, a poet, a critic, a philosopher, and a friend. Joshua Clover (aka Jane Dark) is one of my favorite pop culture critics ever as well as one of the smartest and wittiest people you could ever have the pleasure to meet. -- J. Dickens (near the intersection of Armitage and Damen). 21 and over/please bring ID.
