Without the aid of limbs, the number of ways in which snakes can get around is remarkable - they can crawl on the solid ground, sidewind on slippery surfaces, burrow, swim, climb trees and other objects, and even "fly". Flying snakes, found only in South and Southeast Asia, aren't actually able to fly, but they can glide or parachute in the same fashion as a flying squirrel. They flatten the entire body (but not the tail) and undulate through the air in an "S" shaped posture. |
