Kalyan Pathak, Percussionist
Kalyan Pathak is a composer, musician, drummer and a percussion player of a multi cultural experience covering a very vast base.  Raised in a musical family in Ahmedabad, India, he began his formal training in Classical North Indian Tabla at the age of 9, and continued this rigorous regimen until he was 15.  Kalyan came to Chicago in the early nineties, and in addition to receiving a B.Mus. degree in Jazz studies with honors, he went on to study African, Afro-cuban, Latin and Middle Eastern genres of percussion. Kalyan has performed with the Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, toured in Europe with Willy Schwarz Band, and he plays regularly with Fareed Haque, the Chicago guitarist of world repute. Leading his own group, Jayho Jazzmata, Kalyan has been performing his compositions blending jazz, blues with Indian ragas and folk influences.  Kalyan and Jayho Jazzmata have released a cd, The Shape of Ragazz to Come, on Zilka Records. As a sessionist, as a drummer, and as a percussionist, Kalyan is in a great demand playing in a wide variety of musical situations.  He can be regularly seen in Classical Chamber music groups, experimental jazz groups, and anything and everything in-between.

Naeif Rafeh, Nay
Naeif obtained his bachelor's degree in music from Damascus Conservatory, Syria 1996, with focus on French horn and Nay. He served as a member of the Damascus Philharmonic Orchestra as well as other Middle Eastern orchestras. He played in numerous festivals around the Middle East and Europe, and taught at several academic location throughout Syria. Naeif is an active performer and is considered one of the most promising nay players in the Middle East. photo

Najib Bahri, Arabic Percussion
Najib Bahri, Tunisian, grew up in a family of musicians with whom he started playing Arabic percussion instruments at the age of eight. The family performed in theatres and for the Tunisian television. At age sixteen, he attended the Tunisian National Conservatory of Music. Najib moved to France to finish his education and performed in Parisian nightclubs. He developed a holistic teaching style that incorporates breathing, singing, and body movement as part of the oral-tradition methods transmitted to him by the masters of Tunisian Art music. Since then, he has been an active performer and researcher of different world rhythms. Throughout his career, Najib accompanied some of the most prestigious musicians of the Arabic world. Inventor of the electric darbouka, Najib builds specialized Arabic percussion instruments, and is the leader of the musical group al-Amal (The Hope).

Basil Zayid, Voice / 'Ud
Basil is considered one of the best singers in the region for his voice range, high sensitivity towards highly ornamented repertoire, and above all his musicality. He studies music composition at Magnificat Institute in Jerusalem. His accomplishments are extraordinary and very promising.

Ibrahim al-'Atari, Qanun
Considered one of the best Qanun players in the region and granted to him the establishment of a Qanun life in three major West Bank cities. He is the principal Qanun player for Firqat al-Musiqa al-Sharqiyyah, and Awj, at the National Conservatory of Music where he has been teaching Qanun since 1993. Ibrahim performed and recorded with many local and international groups, and constantly active in the field of teaching in addition to conducting music workshops for children.

Samir Totah,'Ud
Considered one of the best 'Udists in the region. He developed a character of his own on his 'Ud in addition to rapid growing towards developing a unique composition style. Samir performed for many years with many local groups and managed to introduce him self as an 'ud soloist.

Yusif Zayid, Arabic Percussion / 'Ud
One of the most talented young musicians in the region who proved his musicianship on the professional level despite his young age. Yusif's multi-talent in performance and composition was a major factor for him to be chosen for major local and international performances. He is already considered an authority in his field and continues to provide all those who work with him with positive energy.
