Ilja A. Boelaars MSc FRM

I am a PhD student in the economics department and a finance lecturer in the college at the University of Chicago. My interests are in financial risk management, insurance and pensions, and economic policy. I will be available for the job market in the end of 2019

Before coming to Chicago, I worked for several years in actuarial and risk management consulting in Amsterdam. I also served as a board member for the youth organization of political party D66. In this role I successfully lobbied against the governments intention to relax valuation standards for Dutch pension funds. I hold a B.Sc. in Economics from Utrecht University and an M.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics. Additionally, I am a certified Financial Risk Manager with the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

I used to frequently blog for RTL Z, a Dutch financial news station. I have also made several contributions to a variety of media outlets, primarily on pension reform and related topics (mostly in Dutch).
