Register of Scores

in the collection of early editions of the works of Frédéric Chopin
in the University of Chicago Library

For each of the composer’s works in the Library’s Chopin Collection, this section of the Chopin Online Catalog has a work table that identifies all of the Collection’s individual scores for that work. The Register of Scores is the ensemble of these tables, and thus provides a list of all individual scores in the collection. It is suitable for searching and browsing. It also can be used to view the collection in other ways, as explained in Other views of the Collection.. The Register’s 85 works are:

For each score in the collection the Register has imprint data, acquisition number, score number, Library image number, and Library call number. For explanations of these terms, please click “Guide” to the left of the work title.

The Register also has links to bibliographic descriptions of the scores. For a PDF file of descriptions of all scores in a work table, please click the table’s work title. Editorial methods used to write the descriptions are discussed in the Appendix section of this online catalog. Four summary pages of that discussion can be accessed more directly from the PDF files descriptions methods summary and dating methods summary. The description summary includes a template that identifies the various parts of a general description. The dating summary includes an explanation of the abbreviations used in stating estimates of publication dates.
