Research Studies for Patients and Families

We are conducting research studies on the following diseases:

Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Long QT Syndrome

Brugada Syndrome

Idiopathic Ventricular Fibrillation

Familial Atrial Fibrillation

Isolated/Non-syndromic Congenital Heart Defects

Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy

Participation in our studies consists of:

1.    Informed Consent

Informed consent is a process in which we will discuss with you the purpose of the study, how long it will last, and risks and benefits.  We will ask you to sign a consent form if you decide to participate.

2.     Medical information and family history

We will ask permission to obtain relevant medical records from both your neurologist(s) and cardiologist(s).  We will also ask you questions regarding your family history.

3.    Blood sample

We ask for a blood sample from participants in our study. This blood sample will be used to isolate DNA. If you are not in the Chicago area we can send you a blood collecting kit with instructions and return packaging that you may take to your next doctorÕs appointment or alternatively have your blood drawn at your local lab.
