The University of Chicago is seeking to ensure gender equity amongst its faculty, particularly amongst faculty in the science, technology, and mathematics fields. In order to accomplish this task, the Provost is undertaking a comprehensive review of best case practices and developing measures for the University to correct any imbalances, including applying to external grants. The Community Health Center is a private, non-profit, public benefit corporation in Los Angeles founded more than 30 years ago to serve the health needs of the South Los Angeles community. In a consultant role to the CEO, I conducted a current state analysis and provided recommendations based on interviews and observation analyzed with Atlas.ti. Semics was a consulting and research evaluation company that specializes in finding solutions for communities. Semics provided support services in program development, execution and evaluation to Non Profits, NGO’s, Government Groups and Corporations. It grew out of extensive work with diverse communities throughout Southern California. Once Semics finished its contracted with the State of California in 2007, the President decided to close its doors and move on to other opportunities. Miradiant was a start-up on-line business-to-business infrastructure company providing global electronic invoice presentation, dispute resolution, financing services and financial settlement working under the auspices of JP Morgan & Co. Miradiant positioned itself for a strategic buy-out and has subsequently ceased to exist.
Recruiting Responsibilities:
Developed and managed the entire recruiting process from requisition specification to sourcing to hire, from Associate to VP level, for every division, including Technology, Product Development, Business Development and Sales, Finance/Administration, and Marketing/ PR.
Conducted all interviews of job candidates to assess cultural fit and basic competency, which averaged 3-5 interviews per day, 20 minutes to 1 hour each. Conducted all post-interview feedback sessions with Miradiant interviewing team.
Identified and maintained external recruiting contacts, and negotiated retained and contingent search firm contracts. Highly respected by outside agencies for decisiveness, speed, honesty, integrity, and intuitive accuracy on assessing potential candidates’ wants, needs, weaknesses, and strengths.
Identified and monitored all Internet sourcing vehicles to gain the lowest sourcing costs possible for Miradiant. Successfully recruited and hired candidates from these sources.
Created methods to maintain a pool of active “potential hires” for future openings.
Identified hiring needs according to budget, assisted in design of departmental reporting structure, and defined new-hire requirements and compensation packages.
Cultural Development and Team Building Responsibilities:
Developed initiatives to shape and support our corporate culture and to build positive teamwork and cross-functional communication.

Developed monthly “Get-To-Know-You” lunch. An employee gave a 15-20 minute free-form presentation about himself or herself containing information “not generally divulged in a work-place setting” (special skills or hobbies or personal history, etc.). Averaged nearly 100% attendance at each luncheon.
