Unix Systems Programmer

·         Develop and maintain web-based applications written in Perl and Java (servlets running on Tomcat 4). Applications allow users and account administrators to easily create and maintain LDAP, Qi, Unix, Active Directory, and Kerberos accounts.  User population ~24,000

·         Develop and maintain programs in Perl and C that synchronize the University directory servers with central student and human resources systems

·         Develop programs using C and Java to maintain synchronicity between the Unix and Active Directory environments.

·         Assist in the support and maintenance of University’s central Unix cluster servers.

·         Student Network Assistant (2000–2001): Diagnosed and repaired problems with network infrastructure.  Created a program (Noman) in PHP and Perl that allows students to register their computers in the DNS, reducing the average time it took a student to get fully connected from 2–4 weeks to about 5 minutes. Assisted with troubleshooting network hardware and configuration.  Administrated Lake Forest College’s web, print, and file servers.

·         Hardware Support Specialist (2000 summer): Prepared college computer labs in the IT, Math, and Psychology departments for the fall semester.  Wrote Java/PHP based time-tracking software package to manage student workers’ shifts and timecards.

 

·         Student Network Activation Project Supervisor (1999–2000): Managed staff of 15 student network assistants who connected fellow students’ computers to the network.

·         Computer Lab Manager (1998–2001): Supervised staff of 20 students providing technical support to users working in three computer labs. 

·         Computer Lab Tech (1997–2001): Maintained servers and systems in the Lake Forest College Computer Labs. Administrated three Linux servers in support of lab services and security. Developed build system for Windows machines to allow fast rebuilding and redeployment of broken machines.
