My name is Jason Swiecki.  I live as a first year graduate student in Slavic linguistics in Chicago.

I am very fond of the Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian languages.

Here is a dialectal map of my beloved ex-Yugoslavia:

Here's a picture of me in my college years:

My favorite singer is Neil Diamond, because I am a fifty seven year old woman:

In all fairness, I think I know two, maybe three, of his songs.  But that's enough.

Here is some awful music that I listen to.  I hope it makes you want to cry.

Jingle Cats- O Holy Night

The Jingle Cats are pretty talented.  If you haven't had enough of them, you can find a breathtaking video of theirs on YouTube that was awarded a Palm d'Or:

Cool Jingle Cats video

Be warned, however, that while the Jingle Cats albums one and two ("Have a Meow-y Christmas" and "Santa Claws is Coming to Town") are heartwarming little ditties and fun for most of the family, this video is really really really intense.  It took me several days to recover.

Here's another youtube link.  When I was doing research to come to Chicago, i.e. looking up Perfect Strangers clips on youtube, this was what popped up:

Perfect Strangers valentine

Here's a copy of the International Phonetic Alphabet:

Here's a nice song, linked to another page by Plavi Orkestar, alleged by one of my esteemed colleagues to be the Bosnian equivalent of the Backstreet Boys:

Kad mi kazes Pasa

Here's another PDF about Buglarian clitics:

Bulgarian Clitics as K-Heads (by Steven Franks)

Here are two word files.  The first one is a terrible story in Bosnian that I wrote:

A bad fantastic BCSM story I tried writing

And here's a list of charming email titles I've collected (my favorite is "large beebread"):
