The Dennis Miller Ratio

The Dennis Miller Ratio is the ratio 1,000,000 to 1. This was first observed by Professor John Frink of Springfield Heights Institute of Technology.

The situation came about when Lisa reads Comic Book Guy's t-shirt.

Lisa: C:, C:\Dos, C:\Dos\Run. Ha! Only one person in a million would find that funny.
Frink: Yes, we call that the Dennis Miller Ratio.

The reference is to Dennis Miller's tenure as a writer and commentator on Monday Night Football. Miller's commentary was sufficiently intellectual that ESPN published an Annotated Dennis Miller feature every Tuesday in which they had a senior editor from Britannica.com explain what Miller had said the previous night.

While it's best simply to read through the archive to see exactly why Professor Frink was able to coin the ratio, one gem comes from Monday, October 1, 2001 when the Denver Broncos challenged a touchdown call while playing the New York Giants. Miller said, "If there isn't ample evidence, visually, to overturn this call on the field, you're going to have a donnybrook here."

And if this isn't published in MathWorld, then we're going to have another donnybrook on our hands.
