  • Applications programming in Java and Perl for University's identity/account management system. Integrated additional University units into central account system; dismantled legacy NIS and Ph/Qi systems and added LDAP and Active Directory synchronization for single sign-on; designed mail account provisioning system for migration to appliance-based service; migrated from Sybase to MS-SQL; extended University usernames from eight to sixteen characters; wrote mail and account debugging tools for help desk; wrote end-user interfaces to manage mail accounts; implemented generation and dissemination tools for alternate identifier (ChicagoID) to abate SSN proliferation.
  • Systems programming in C, Perl and Java. Wrote SMTP software, a RADIUS gateway, a library implementation of the Admind Mirapoint administration protocol, IMAP synchronization and analysis tools, an SFTP protocol implementation and a Windows GINA.
  • Systems administration of enterprise services (critical, 28000+ users). Responsible (on-call 24/7) for OpenLDAP-based directory service, Mirapoint-based mail service, BIND-based DNS service, Xythos-based Web/file service and the F5 BIG-IP load balancers in front of these services; designed all or portions of these systems. Migrated mail system from custom delivery software to standard sendmail+LDAP (and subsequently Mirapoint), and migrated systems from Solaris to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, including automated server bring-up and remote management. Supported LDAP authentication on Linux, Solaris and Mac OS, and supported LDAP integration into various vended and non-commercial products. Implemented University-wide IM service based on Jive Wildfire and aided in administration of VMware-based virtualization service.

Designed and implemented departmental database applications (25000-30000 lines of PHP), a network login system (Win32 C, Mac OS Objective C, Bourne, Perl), a pay-for-print kiosk system (C, C++, Perl, Bourne, PostScript), and programs to automate administration of laboratory computers.
  • Administration of Unix servers supporting Windows and Mac OS clients. Responsible for five central servers and 15-20 building print servers. Provided multiuser virtual Web hosting services, database services, mail services for 50 staff, print and file services for 2600 residents.
  • Technical support for administrative and support staff. On-call for 24/7 staff shifts.
