Linda in the World Wide Web
- One very exciting recent development is the Yale Linda Group, whose research projects include a "Linda Coordination Language" and the "Linda Program Builder." They also list "Linda Publications (group & external)." We at the Institute were puzzled, however, by one statement on the Yale Group's page: "If you have questions about the commercial Linda product, please contact Scientific Computing Associates." Indeed, we have some questions about this "commercial Linda product": A) Why weren't we informed? And B) why aren't we making any money off it? Thus, we dutifully tracked down the Scientific Computing Associates, who maintain the "lindaspaces" site. They claim that "cost-effectiveness, speed and ease of use all are advantages of using Linda. Linda's exceptionally low overhead results in high performance low-level speed from a high-level tool." (Say what?) Linda is definitely low speed, that's for sure. But the other stuff is more questionable. N.B.: If you decide on this commercial Linda product, be aware that it does not carry the Bivens Institute guarantee. Only official Bivens Institute commercial products bear the Bivens Institute Seal of Quality.
- The Yale Group's "Linda Coordination Language" might be useful in understanding "Linda's Log," which seems to be in Dutch.
- Then there's Linda's Orchid Page, though frankly we were hard-pressed to find any convincing connection between Linda and Orchids. If anything, she might find them tasty, though less so than cat-grass, of which she is very fond. On this note, there's also the Linda's Garden site out of St. Paul MN.
- For inspiration, we here at the Institute turn to "Linda's Lyrics Original Poetry" . Or, along the same lines, lindasongs.com. A fan's testimony on lindasongs.com: "Linda sings the songs that tell of the lives and the work, the hopes and the dreams of people everywhere. Her interest in songwriting has grown out of her love for traditional music as well as her interest in our collective history. She has a talent for reaching into the ordinary to find the profound, setting it to music and singing it home." We couldn't have said it better.
- For our Finnish readers, we are pleased to note the arrival of "lindaline," which we assume to be a hotline for Linda-related concerns.
- Also thrilling is the latest news from "Lindastyle," which promises: "...3 new books from Linda -- SLOW DANCE WITH A COWBOY in June 2002, THE MAN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH in Septembr 2002 and WHAT MADELINE WANTS in 2003. " We knew that Linda had a talent for writing, but three books in a year is phenomenal. Suzanne Tucker of the Old Book Barn Gazette says of one of Linda's earlier books: "Full of mystery and intrigue, this story is also a journey of love and discovery. When hearts are at stake, nothing else matters. Don't miss Dana and Logan's wonderful journey."
- One of Linda's more nautical hobbies is represented by the Linda's Lighthouse page.
- If you need a place to stay in Tucson Arizona, we would recommend "La Tierra Linda guest ranch resort." Their site describes the Linda as "an Arizona dude ranch that provides the perfect combination of comfort and luxury[, dude]." Strangely, despite their namesake, they do not allow pets.
- And finally, one of our favorites-- the name speaks for itself-- Linda's Universe.
