I am currently a fourth year graduate student at the University of Chicago. I received my B.A. in philosophy and linguistics from the University of Arizona. Broadly, I am interested in pragmatics, formal semantics, discourse analysis and syntactic theory. My particular interests include expressions of empathy within language and the investigation of factors influencing these expressions cross-linguistically. I have become increasingly interested as of late in the possibilities of neurological grounding of linguistic empathy and the possible benefits of a computational workup of empathy systems. I frequently flaunt maxims for the sake of comedy. I've also been known to dabble in the philosophy of language when I'm feeling sassy. |
