Background

Liz is a doctoral student in the Developmental Psychology program at the University of Chicago.  She graduated from Yale University in 2005 with a B.A. in Computer Science & Psychology.

Research Interests

Liz’s research takes a multi-faceted approach to the problem of mathematical development by studying both cognitive and social factors that contribute to children’s math learning. She is currently investigating how verbal interactions facilitate preschoolers’ development of number concepts; how visuo-spatial representations relate to children’s early numeracy skills and number line knowledge; how teacher’s and children’s anxieties influence students’ math performance; and how praise affects children’s development of achievement motivation.
