Klaas Heinrich Van Der Wey

Klaas H. Van
Der Wey is Manager of UCSC Operations in the Division of the Vice President for
Campus Life and Dean of Students in the University. His tenure began on October
1, 2007. Currently, Van Der Wey
contributes to key divisional initiatives including the Human Resources
Workgroup for New Staff Orientation and involvement with an exploratory task
force on Co-curricular Life. Previously,
he served as Coordinator of the
Van Der Wey is
a member of UCSC’s professional team providing
strategic support for services and programs geared toward graduate and
undergraduate students’ civic engagement and personal development. He oversees
administration (operations, communications and media relations, marketing and
development), including human resources functions for 30 staff, provides
clarity on University policy, and manages the department’s physical plant and
risk management operations. He also monitors and plans budgeting for 14
programs in 5 focus areas: co-curricular programming, direct service,
leadership development, organizational development and professional
preparation.
Under his
supervision is the Investment in Diversity program focusing on the recruitment of, support for,
and retention of students of color through free campus tours. Investment in Diversity tours present the
college experience to middle and high school freshmen of historically
under-represented, first generation, and minority students and groups from all
over the country.
During Van Der
Wey’s tenure at the
Prior to U of
C, Van Der Wey studied Marketing Communication & Public Relations at Columbia College where he also held
positions in the offices of admissions, student activities, and its’ governing
body, the College Council.
Following
Elsewhere in the community he
continues to be a supporter of the arts having previously acted, directed and
produced plays for small theatres in
